In the past few years I’ve noticed a resurgence in tabletop games. What used to be considered only for kids and nerds, now has gone mainstream in a way. But say you’re new to tabletop gaming or want to find a game that the whole family can enjoy. What to do? You could spend a ton of money on games at a comic/hobby shop to only have them take up space if it turns out you don’t like them. You could also spend 3 days at a convention’s tabletop area, trying every single game they have to offer. But who really has time for that. Or you cant pick up The Everything Tabletop Games Book by Bebo.
So what is The Everything Tabletop Games Book? It is what it says, a book that has to do with everything with tabletop games. To be more specific, Bebo has compiled a list of over a hundred for the most popular tabletop game in a book. While there are other books that share the same info, the way Bebo organizes and lays everything thing out is very helpful and less daunting.
Here’s how the book is organized: in each chapter (with the exception of the first chapter, which is an introduction to tabletop gaming) is titled after a genre of game. These genres range from deck building and traditional pen & paper RPGs to wargames, hidden role and party games. Each of these chapters has anywhere between six to nine games, with each game getting a summary of what the game is about, the rules, the number of players it supports, play time fun facts about the game and expansions that the game might have. Each entry is easy to understand and and has enough information about each game that those who are venturing out into tabletop gaming for the first time can feel well informed and not overwhelmed.
Thanks to this book there are a couple of games that caught my interest and want to check out. There’s even a couple of games that I do know of but never had the chance to play. I highly recommended adding this book to your bookshelves or coffee table if you find the need to either look for a new game to play or give a recommendation to friends.
