It is said that fads, no matter how popular they are, eventually fad away. It is also said that given enough time fads will come back once again. In video games the biggest fad hands down had to be music rhythm games that came with plastic perpetuals. The most notorious, and successful, of these games were Guitar Hero and Rock Band. While the two franchises faded away at the dawn of the new generation of consoles and imitators tried to take their place, fans have been chanting for a reunion tour of either games. A few weeks ago Harmonix revealed that they were going to bring back Rock Band for the PS4 and Xbox One. Not one to be upstaged, Activision has revealed that they will be bring back the originator of the plastic guitar movement, Guitar Hero, as Guitar Hero Live. Here is the announcement trailer that was released, showing off the new way that returning rock stars will be paying the game:
This is a major departure from the cartoony look and vibe of previous games. Even the scrolling fret board has see an update from the original. This makes me wonder if GH is going for a more of a live in concert feel with a life audience in the background or will it have traditional studio tracks. Activision also revealed the new design for the guitar that will come with the game:
Since the game is aiming for a Fall 2015 release, you can be sure that there will be more infomation about new game modes and mechanics work when E3 rolls around. Guitar Hero Live is set for a Fall release and will be out on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and all mobile devices.
