Anime Expo 2014: NIS America announces Criminal Girls for Vita

With a pretty sizable showing at E3 last month, you would think that NIS America would have been done announcing games and shift their focus on new anime acquisitions that they have made since Anime Expo 2014 is in full swing. Well in a bit of a surprise announcement at their panel, NIS America as revealed that they have acquired the localization rights to the Vita game Criminal Girls Invite Only and will be bringing the game to North America and Europe in 2015. Here’s the trailer that they released at the panel:

Criminal Girls was first announced in 2010 as a PSP game in Japan and then received a enhanced port for the Vita in 2013. You are a new employee at a prison in Hell. You job is to over help over see the absolution of seven girls whose sins have landed them in prison so that they may be reborn again in heaven. Seems simple enough, but the girls are delinquents after all so you have to endure their bickering as you lead them through several dungeon floors battling monsters for their redemption. If they fail then they have to face “punishment”.

When I first saw this game, I thought that there would be no way that this would make it over to the West, for obvious reasons (ie Lolis, boobs, and S&M). Especially in the US. Fast forward to earlier today and here we are. Though when it was revealed that NISA had to make edits to the game in order to get a rating from the ESRB, people online started to throw fits. From what was missing from this new trailer, I can take a guess at what sections of the game have been edited. For comparsion’s sake here is the original Japanese release trailer:

Regardless of the “controversy”, its good to see that more niche games are coming out. Criminal Girls Invite Only is set for a 2015 release.
