As much as I love video games, there are time when even I need to unplug once in a while and play some board/card games. However as an adult there isn’t much of a selection of games that are geared to adults and adults only. Enter Goliath Games, a board/card game manufacture whose games include Doggie Doo, Gooey Louie and Domino Rally. At the time of writing they will have revealed a new lineup of games at GEN Con 2018 aimed at adults called Games Adults Play. These games were made for those adults who want to “spice up” game night. They reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in checking out their initial lineup of games, and I said sure.  Which brings us to our first game, a card game called Shit Happens.

Set up and rules

The main objective to Shit Happens is to be the best in ranking “shitty”  from least to worse. Each card has a situation, a picture of said situation and a number called the misery index number. These numbers range from 1 to 100. To start the game, one person shuffles the deck and then give out three cards to each player. The rest of the cards form the draw pile. All the players then place their cards face up, this is called the lane of pain. The person who shuffle the deck goes first and draws a card. That player then reads out the the situation to the others. It is up to the other players to guess where the card lands in their lane of pain. If they get it wrong, its the next person on their left’s turn. This continues around the table until someone gets it correct. If they go guess right, they keep the card and place it in their lane. If no one guess it right then it gets discarded. As players gain more cards in the lane of pain, it becomes a bit tougher to guess where the next card lands in the lane. The first person to get ten cards is, as the game says, “King/Queen of Shit Mountain”. For even more shitty fun, there are expansions to the game as well.

Initial thoughts

Playing Shit Happens was pretty simple and easy to pick up. At first we were confused at how the scoring was done, but once we started to play, we quickly understood. The shitty situations are very imaginative and at time down right crude and gross. Which is great for those who enjoy that kind of humor. The first playthrough took us about thirty minuets, as we had to stop a few times to catch our breath from the amount of laughing and shouting we were doing. After learning the rules in the first playthrough, each game took about twenty to twenty-five minuets, again with frequent laughing breaks.

Final Thoughts

I’ll say this: if you’re a fan of South Park, Rick and Morty, basically any Adult Swim show that’s not anime, you will enjoy this game. Shit Happens is crude and very dirty and not for the faint of heart, or children for that matter.  If your looking to add a little bit of “shit” to game night, then pick up Shit Happens.

8/10
