Lupin The Third to get a modern live action movie

Oh things you can miss while recovering from E3 coverage and on vacation. For the most part, when Hollywood tries to take beloved anime shows and give them a live action adaptation, it never goes well, see the live action Dragon Ball Evolution movie for example. However for Japan it seems that when they turn an anime show into a live action movie, that they do a way better job. There are a few live action adaptations that are just just as bad as Evolution mind you, but even with the bad ones they keep the spirit of the show. This goes for manga as well. Speaking of which, one of the most iconic mangas/anime is getting a second live action adaptation in over 30 plus years. The suave international thief with the styling red blazer, Lupin The Third, is getting a modern day live action movie.

This movie tells the origins of Lupin, how he became a thief and how he came meet Goemon Ishikawa, Daisuke Jigen, Fujiko Mine and formed the gang. Here they are after the Crimson Heart of Cleopatra, but it seems that they are not the only ones after it, as seen in the newest trailer for the movie:

So far I think the movie looks kind of good for an adaptation. I say this because unlike other movies like Death Note or Dragon Ball Evolution, Lupin The Third seems to make the most sense when being transferred from pages and animation cells to live action. Which can be a hard thing to do if the original work is steeped in fantasy.

Lupin The Third will be seeing a Japanese theatrical release on August 30, 2014.
