Marvel reveals Phase 3 movies for its cinematic universe

I don’t normally report on the on goings of the Marvel Cinematic Universe unless there is a video game tied to it. But the news that came out yesterday is just too awesome and epic to not share. During a press only junket that Marvel was holding to discuss the upcoming Avengers 2 Age of Ultron and Ant Man movies that will conclude Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the company announced its Phase 3 plans and revealed the nine movies that will make it up. Here is what fans will have to look forward over the next five years:

Not only has it been confirmed that the next Captain America movie will have the Civil War arc as its backdrop, Black Panther has been revealed to make an appearance. His showing up in Civil War will led to the set up of the character’s own movie. Taking up the role of T’Challa is Chadwick Boseman. Speaking of casting, many knew that Marvel wanted to bring the Sorcerer Supreme Dr. Strange to the MCU, but hasn’t been cast. During the junket it was revealed that Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed to play Dr. Strange.

While not at the event, James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy Skyped in to announced that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is in the works. Also announced was a Captain Marvel movie that features the current Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers aka Ms. Marvel. This obviously sent the internet a buzz that Marvel will be taking on DC’s Wonder Woman with Captain Marvel. The lesser known Inhumans have been confirmed for a movie, with some theorizing that they will be Marvel’s answer to FOX’s X-Men.

To end the press event, Marvel showed off a teaser trailer that will end Phase 3:

All that teasing of the Infinity Gems and Thanos will come to fruition in Avengers Infinity War. The movie supposedly covers and involves all of the heroes in the MCU that it has been split into two movies. Marvel is pulling no strings with Phase 3, and personally as a Marvel fan I am very excited for it.
