As I mentioned before, The Game Awards can be full of surprises, such as a traditionally Playstation associated series lending a character over to its rival company. Another pleasant (but not so surprising) surprise was the reveal of a new Mortal Kombat game and a cinematic trailer. During the show, series creator Ed Boon was on stage to present the award for best sports/racing game. Instead of the nominees showing up, a familiar chain spear broke through and the following cinematic was shown:
In the cinematic we see series regulars Scorpion and Raiden battling out in what seems to be Shang Tsun’s stage from the first Mortal Kombat , but now its decimated. At first look it seems that the game will be taking cue from Injustice 2, as both Scorpion and Raiden seemed to be wearing armor. As Raiden finishes off Scorpion by first breaking his fingers, then his knee and then blowing his head off using his lighting, another Scorpion, this time in his classic MK1 outfit appears and kills Raiden. If you thought that MK X’s combat was bloody, MK 11 seems to take it up a notch, as seen in the trailer. Mortal Kombat !! will see a global launch on April 23, 2019 with a community reveal on January 17, 2019. Those who pre-order the game on the PS4 and Xbox One will get access to a beta in March, and everyone who pre-orders in general will get Shao Kanh free. Again the game is set to release on April 23, 2019 on PS4, XBox One, PC via Steam and on Switch. That’s right. MK 11 on the Switch.
