Nothing beats the thrill of a dungeon run. Hacking n’ slashing your way down a dungeon, gathering all the shiny loot and making back to home base with said loot and only a tiny bit of health left. Now imagine doing this but with your party stacked on top of your head. This is the premise of Lapis x Labyrinth and I managed to play just a bit during PAX South 2019.
The game’s story, as per the press release, is as follows:
When a struggling village falls on hard times and is in desperate need of wealth, there’s only one solution: gatheryour comrades, venture into the labyrinth below the Golden Forest, and claim the piles of gold and treasureshidden within! You will need all your courage and wits to survive the dangers ahead, but the treasures that awaityou are well worth it!
Like most dungeon crawls/runs, the objective is to get as much loot as possible and return to base safely. Now as I mentioned before, Lapis x Labyrinth main gimmick is stacking members of your party on top of each other on your head to become a tower of destruction. While playing I was able to switch the party member I was controlling on the bottom of the stack with anyone that was on top of me. I was also able to pull off simple combos with the main party member I was controlling with any of the other members on top. Combat was fast paced and fun and I think my favorite part was being able to activate huge area of attacks and spells that killed all the enemies on screen and made it rain loot. Did I mention I love loot? Lapis x Labyrinth is set for a release date of May 28, 2019 for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
