PAX South 2019: The Princess Guide hands on impressions

2019 seems to be the year of NISA as they have several games coming out within the next few months. With that in mind, NISA made their PAX South debut at PAX South 2019 a couple of weeks ago and brought along several of said games. One of those games is The Princess Guide for the Nintendo Switch and PS4 (the Switch version was being demoed). Now for those who missed on the first announcement back at Anime Expo 2018, The Princess Guide an Action RPG/beat em’ up/strategy game that has players take on the role of a Master Knight. In a land that has been torn apart by chaos and war, an evil rises to take advantage of the situation in order to rule the land. It is your job as Master Knight to train one of four Princess Knights to fight back and bring peace to their respective kingdoms.

The demo that was on hand at PAX South had attendees play as Liliartie, so I played as her. Right off the bat the combat feels similar to Nippon Ichi’s previous game, Penny Pinching Princess. However instead of magic money  spells and bribing enemies, you take command a small squad that follows you into battle. The Y button was the main attack, pushing the left analog stick in any direction and Y is a second main attack, pressing Y and B together is a secondary attack. You also can order your small squad to attack as well by pressing A button and trigger a Commander Attack with the X button. The action was fast pace and a bit confusing at time due to a lot of things going on at once. However it was very satisfying to take down hordes of enemies with Liliartie, so I assume that the other three princess will be just as fun to play with. The Princess Guide is set for a March 26, 2019 release date on the Nintendo Switch and PS4.
