Right along side other shmups like Raiden and Gradius, the R-Type series was one of my favorite arcade games growing up. I also remember it being one of the hardest that I’ve played too. Over the years developer Irem would release sequels, ports and compilations of the series. Then in 2012 Irem started to pull everything released to the R-Type series and anything Irem related from various digital markets for no apparent reason. However all the game were brought back thanks to Tozai Games, who are also responsible for bring back Lode Runner and Spelunker HD.
Back to R-Type. Now Tozai Games will be bringing R-Type Dimensions to the PS3. If you haven’t played this game on the Xbox 360, where this port comes from, Dimensions is a compilation of R-Type and R-Type II. Both games have been redone in HD, however if you long for the old school look, you can switch visual styles on the fly. Here’s the trailer for the game that Tozai Games released:
R-Type Dimentions will come with the following key features:
• Two complete games – includes all 8 original R-Type levels and all 6 original R-Type II levels
• Switch between new hi-res 2D/3D graphics with revamped music, or play the classic versions with the push of a button
• Infinite Mode and Level Select – learn the levels inside and out for the perfect, 1CC runs
• Co-op Mode – 2 players can play together “couch co-op” style
• Slow motion play function – weave through bullets and enemies with ease
• Controller key configuration – change the button layout to match your play style
