Ever since Marvel Studios revealed that one of the movies in Marvel’s Phase Three uses the Civil War as the backdrop for the next Captain America movie, fans have asked will Spider Man be a part of the plot. When it was stated by Marvel that Spider Man movie franchise belongs Sony Pictures and will not be apart of the Civil War fans were upset and rightfully so. Yes the MCU may using different stories from the comics to draw inspiration for the movies, however in the Civil War event, Spider Man played a prominent part of the story line.
For months it has been rumored that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios would strike a deal letting the wall crawler join fellow heroes Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor and many more. But through out 2014 that’s all they have been, just rumors, till now.
Today Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have reached a new deal that will bring Spider Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and possibly introduce heroes of the MCU into the Spider Man universe. Under the new deal Spider Man will appear first in a MCU movie and then will release a Spider Man movie on July 27, 2017 that follows the events of his MCU appearance.
It seems, to me at least, that Sony will not reboot Spider Man, but will recast the roles. With so much uncertain at this point, SDCC will be the place to get answers.
