For as long as I remember the Earth Defense Force (or EDF as the series is commonly known as) has always alternated between being an homage to campy B-science fiction movies to serious military third person shooter. Now the series has split into two different games, Earth Defense Force 5 (which is coming out in December) and Earth Defense Force Iron Rain. Iron Rain was first revealed at last year’s TGS and is back again with a brand new trailer. Check it out down below:
What makes Iron Rain different from EDF 5 is that in addition to the more serious tone of the story, Iron Rain will have the troops of EDF fighting Kaiju. The game also seems to have seen a graphical update, as EDF 5 was originally first released in Japan in 2017. Either way we get more EDF and that sounds good to me. Earth Defense Force Iron Rain will be releasing in the West sometime in 2019.
